Materials
All paintings are painted flat on tables in my studio in South Seattle using acrylic paint, mediums, watercolors, oxides, dry pigments and layered translucent non-toxic UV stable epoxy art resin on archival cradled wood panels. I have a composites background and been experimenting with epoxy resin as an art medium for painting and sculpture for over 30 years.
Over decades I have created a secret-recipe for the translucent and light capturing resin I use both for painting and as a sculptural layer in my work. I have a ceramic sculpture background and drawn towards the PNW & Japanese ceramics palette for color. The sides of my paintings are also painted to give them a sculptural dimension adding to the perception that the paintings are quite thick and solid. . The paintings look like they appear to have some weight, however because they are mostly built upon on archival cradled wood panels they will hang on a standard wall with screw-in anchors. Most paintings weight between 5-30 lbs, depending upon how many layers have been applied to the surface.
I take great care in choosing the materials I work with to ensure that they are archival and are the best quality available. A few of the materials I love to use in my art making are listed below.

Intuitive Creative Process
My mother taught me me that my mind is the greatest creative tool I have. She encouraged me to deepen my creativity by creating intuitively directly from my imagination. For my creative practice I clear my mind through a mindfulness practice and by regularly immersing myself in nature through walks and hikes in the nearby Cascade Mountains. When I feel Iām ready to paint, I then pick out some pigments and materials to explore with. Then, I just let my mind wander as I intuitively create marks with the paint, creating in a language uniquely my own. I never know beforehand what I am going to create but something comes through when I create the right conditions for it to manifest through my mind and hands.
I build up layered translucent resin, clay and glass with painting both above, inside and below the surfaces to create a sense of depth and dimension through layered textures, both hard and soft, rhythmic and organic. A recording of my thought process, as my mind dances with the paint, and wanders in a garden of light.
